Golf Technique – The Benefits of Lessons
Posted by BQ Browning under: Golf Techniques .
Good golf technique is one of the hardest skills to acquire – let’s face it, even Tiger Woods has a Coach and if he is prepared to take advice, who are we to disagree! It is a game that is totally dependent on harnessing the mind, body and spirit to work together to apply those golf techniques correctly. To think that we can do it ourselves is perhaps a little foolish.
There is no doubt that getting advice from a good professional is well worth the investment – whether it be a course of lessons or just a single ‘quick fix’ lesson. Advice from one of your friends will almost never do the job in the long term – unless he is a Pro.
The fact is getting advice from other players, no matter how good they are, is probably the worst thing you could do. You need someone experienced, who can see the faults in your stance and swing and then teach you what is needed to correct those problems. The longer you continue to play with incorrect action the harder it will be to retrain yourself later on.
I’ve seen many golfers who have a persistent problem – a slice for example and
rather than get professional advice they changed their game to allow for this problem and would drive the ball allowing for it’s expected flight path.
You can imagine what would happen when occasionally they hit the ball
properly and watch as a lovely straight drive sent the ball sailing through the air to the other fairway. What a waste of a good drive. They might have the ability to drive a long ball but never got the direction right because they refuse to get professional tuition.
The difference is probably something minor that they can correct and enjoy the benefits of for all the years of their golfing life. We are prepared to invest a fortune in our equipment, yet skimp on a few extra dollars for something that will improve our game immeasurably giving us a good golf technique that will go on for ever.
